Attached results for August 22, 2022 FOTTSA water sampling program.
Please note the latest results for the culvert at the north end of the beach tested quite high in comparison to other locations tested.
The Simcoe-Muskoka Public Health unit has been contacted and confirmed there is no cause for concern. However, Public Health noted it is not recommended that you swim in a culvert (area), especially after a big storm and/or during very hot weather.
If there is any cause for concern about our beach’s water quality in the swimming areas, this will be communicated to you via a News Flash, and posted on the DBA website.
**Reminder**
Water samples are taken every two weeks and the results are posted on the DBA website, as they are received from FoTTSA.
The Federation of Tiny Township Shoreline Associations (FoTTSA) is conducting this 10-question anonymous survey to help residents communicate their concerns and priorities to candidates for the October 24 municipal election.
The survey is anonymous and takes about 2 minutes. Have your say here. Deadline is Friday August 19th.

UPDATE RE SHORT TERM RENTALS
As directed by our members, the DBA Board hand-delivered letters on March 10, 2022 to all Members of
Council and the Chief Administrative Officer for Tiny Township regarding the proposed 2-year timeline to
complete a review on short term rentals.
In response to our letter, we have learned that the Short Term Rental Accommodation Task Force is well on
their way to completing their work, specifically regarding proposed new bylaws and zoning amendments. It
is anticipated some or all of the bylaws will be dealt with in the licensing process over the next few months;
while the proposed zoning amendments will take longer due to provincial process.
NB: This information is being shared as a courtesy. The DBA has no jurisdiction over short term rentals,
therefore if you require more information, please go to: www.tiny.ca and click on Short Term Rentals.
Background:
The issue regarding short term rentals at Deanlea Beach was brought forward at the Annual General meeting
held in August 2021, by concerned residents who are having their Deanlea Beach life disrupted due to bad
renters. The issues discussed included bad behaviour, the proposed timeline by the Township to complete
work, and the role of the DBA Board.
Bad Behavior: The first issue at hand stems from the renters who have demonstrated a total disregard for
those around them. They do not follow the DBA Friendly Reminders, or the Tiny Township By-laws. For
example, fireworks are let off at all hours of the night; there is loud music and late night parties; loud and
offensive language, etc.
Proposed Timeline to Complete Work by Tiny Township: The second issue speaks to the proposed 2-year
timeline to complete the work by the Tiny Township Short Term Rental Accommodation Task Force.
Members expressed their concern about the timeline and why it is going to take so long to come to a
resolution when the issue of Short Term Rentals has been on the Township’s radar for some time.
DBA Board Role: The third issue addresses the role of the DBA Board. The Board does not have any
jurisdiction over renting, meaning it does not have a position, one way or the other about short term rentals.
If a property owner wishes to rent their property this is totally within their rights to do so. However, as per
the DBA Charter, the Board can “provide support, related to issues that arise and may not fall under
prescribed mandate”. With this in mind, see Actions below.
ACTIONS:
1. Bad behaviour is not acceptable nor should it be tolerated. Property owners who rent their property are
asked to take more responsibility about the overall issue. This includes being kind, courteous and
respectful to fellow neighbours; ensure a rigorous rental screening process is in place; and ensure that all
guests (family, friends, renters) abide by the DBA Friendly Reminders, which includes By-law information.
2. If bad behaviour is a problem, DBA members are asked to contact Tiny Township By-law or OPP,
depending on issue.
3. The Board agreed to:
a) Draft a template that speaks to the proposed timeline only. Members can use the template as
provided, or adapt to add their personal concerns. DONE - POSTED ON DBA WEBSITE.
b) Send a letter, on behalf of the DBA, to Council and Task Team Chair, regarding the proposed timeline
with the purpose of asking that consideration be given to addressing the issue of Short Term Rentals in a
timelier manner. DONE – LETTERS HAND-DELIVERED ON MARCH 10, 2022.
